Trustworthy AI

The applications, AI models, and resources developed within JAIF are built on a highly secure and reliable computing environment. Trustworthiness is not treated as an afterthought, but as a core principle reflected in a dedicated work package that addresses one of the most critical challenges in today’s AI landscape.

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in the workflows of individuals, institutions, and businesses, ensuring compliance with established standards is essential. JAIF aligns with the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI published by the European Commission (2019), which define trustworthy AI as lawful, ethical, and robust. This includes adherence to applicable regulations, respect for ethical values, transparency in data usage and business models, and resilience against cyber threats and system failures.

To put these principles into practice, JAIF fosters continuous dialogue and collaboration between key stakeholders, including developers, domain experts, and end users. This collaborative approach ensures that trustworthiness is integrated from the earliest stages of application design and development. Identifying potential risks, safety-critical scenarios, and domain-specific constraints is an essential part of this process. All AI models and datasets used within JAIF are developed in line with European regulations and values. Particular emphasis is placed on data diversity and representativeness to minimise potential biases. In addition, clear guidelines for responsible data collection and structured quality assurance processes provide a practical framework for embedding trustworthiness across all services.

By combining technical excellence with ethical responsibility, JAIF establishes a robust foundation for trustworthy AI for all applications provided in the project’s one-stop shop.
